Use Tinx Shopify Connector to connect Business Central with your webshop. The end goal is to set up a connection that allows you to send data from Business Central to Shopify and to import data from Shopify to Business Central. To get there, you complete the following steps.
- Create a custom app for Shopify. The app is necessary to generate the API key that you'll enter in Business Central.
- Install Tinx Shopify Connector. Install the connector from AppSource and complete the initial setup in Business Central.
- Create and configure a Shopify sales channel. Create a new Shopify sales channel, then use the API key from step 1 to configure it in Business Central.
- Configure the Shopify integration. Enter the connection settings on the Integration page to complete the authentication setup.
- Test the connection. Verify that Business Central can communicate with Shopify by publishing items and importing orders.
Business Central also includes a native Shopify connector. The steps to set up the connection using the native connector differ. Learn more about the differences between the two solutions.
To create a custom Shopify app
If your Shopify plan is Starter or Basic, your custom app can't access customer name, phone, email, or address data. If your integration needs this data, for example to sync customer details on orders, you need the Grow plan or higher. For more information, see Protected customer data. You need the App development permission in Shopify to create a custom app, and the App developer role to reach the Dev Dashboard. Collaborator accounts can't access the Dev Dashboard. For more information, see Custom apps and Requirements.
Create and install a custom app on the Shopify Dev Dashboard and save your Client ID and Secret to a secure location. You need these values to configure the Shopify sales channel in Business Central. For more information, see Create apps using the Dev Dashboard.
Shopify requires all API access to go through a custom app. This is Shopify's authentication model. Without an app, there is no way to obtain the credentials Tinx Connector needs to communicate with Shopify. The credentials are tied to the specific permissions you grant, so Shopify knows exactly what Tinx Connector is allowed to do in your webshop. For more information, see Custom apps.
The following interactive walkthrough shows you how to create a custom app in Shopify. It also shows you how to obtain the API key you need to connect Business Central with your webshop. Chapter 1 is mandatory. After chapter 1, choose either chapter 2 or 3 to finalize the process.
To install Tinx Shopify Connector and complete the initial configuration
Skip steps 1-2 if you are setting up Shopify Connector as part of the Quickstart.

Install Tinx Shopify Connector from AppSource. For more information, see Install.
You need a runtime application if you are using Business Central on-premises. For more information, see Runtime application and Update Customer License. Except for installing the runtime application and updating the customer license, the setup steps are the same for on-premises and online installations.

To create and configure a Shopify sales channel in Business Central
The following procedure is the minimum needed to establish the connection between Business Central and Shopify. It's enough if you're completing this procedure as part of the quickstart, or if you want only to test that the connection works. The sales channel setup includes many more areas. For more information, see Sales channel.
In Business Central, select Search (Alt+Q) in the upper-right corner, enter Sales Channels, and then choose the related link.
On the Sales Channel List page, choose the Webshop Connectors action in the New group.
On the Webshop Connectors Overview page, choose the New action, and then choose Create Sales Channel.
-
On the Start Assisted Setup page, in the Webshop Code field, choose SHOPIFY, and then choose OK to create a sales channel.
Tinx Connector applies the default Sales Channel Code when you create the first sales channel. You can change the code later on the Sales Channel Card page.
If this is the first Shopify sales channel you create in Business Central, Tinx Connector downloads the default mapping for your webshop. The download can take an hour. For more information, see Default mapping.
When the download is complete, on the Sales Channel List page, select the newly created Shopify sales channel, and then choose the Edit action.
-
On the Sales Channel Card page, configure the necessary fields for your Shopify integration.
The following table describes the most important fields you need to fill in to set up the connection with Shopify.
Field Description Website Enter the default myshopify.com domain for your Shopify store. Don't use your custom domain. If the domain your customers see is www.example.com, enter https://example.myshopify.com in this field. For more information, see Shopify Domains. API Endpoint Tinx Connector automatically populates this field after you enter the value in the Website field. GraphQL Endpoint Copy the value from the API Endpoint field and append graphql.json, for example, https://example.myshopify.com/admin/api/2025-10/graphql.json. Authorization Type Select Basic Auth. Username Enter your Client ID generated during app creation on the Shopify Dev Dashboard. Password Enter your Client secret generated during app creation on the Shopify Dev Dashboard. -
Turn on the Active and Is Default toggles. For more information, see Is Default and Active toggles.
The following image shows the Shopify connection setup on the Sales Channel Card page.
To configure the Shopify integration
- Select Search (Alt+Q) in the upper-right corner, enter Integrations, and then choose the related link.
- On the Integrations page, select the line with the SHOPIFY code, and then choose the Edit action.
- On the Integration page, on the Services & Authentication FastTab, fill in the Website and Endpoint fields. Use the same values you entered on the Sales Channel Card page for the fields Website and GraphQL Endpoint.
- Select the dropdown arrow in the Authentication Code field, and then select Show details.
- On the Authentication page, fill in the Password field with the same value you entered in the Password field on the Sales Channel Card page.
To test the connection with Shopify
Complete Part 3-5 of the Quickstart to test publishing items from Business Central to Shopify and downloading orders from Shopify to Business Central. For more information, see Quickstart: Part 3. Set the inbound and outbound job queue entries to Ready.
If this is your first time using Tinx Shopify Connector, finish the Quickstart first. After that, read Key concepts in Tinx Connector and the Business functionality section to understand the Tinx Connector core functionality, such as importing orders or publishing products. That functionality is common to all webshops. After you understand this core functionality, continue to the Shopify-specific articles that cover aspects unique to Tinx Shopify Connector.
