Sales channel

The Sales Channel Card page is the configuration hub for Tinx Connector. On one hand, it's where you set up the connection to your webshop. The connection settings include the webshop URL, authentication details such as bearer tokens, and settings that control how the connector behaves. Because each webshop platform connects and authenticates differently, the General FastTab that holds these connection fields is tailored to the specific platform. As a result, the FastTab's fields vary depending on which webshop you use. On the other hand, the Sales Channel Card page is also where you configure many other areas tied to that sales channel. Examples include the stock formula used to calculate published stock quantities and the number series for new sales orders.

You can connect Business Central with more than one sales channel at the same time. For example, you can have a Magento webshop and an Amazon marketplace, both active in Business Central.

The Sales Channel Card page is one of the two major configuration hubs, allowing you to define the way Tinx Connector works. Depending on when your connector was implemented, some values are configured on a separate E-commerce Setup page instead. For more information about the two methods and which one applies to your environment, see E-commerce Setup and Sales Channel: Where to set up the webshop.

Sales Channel Card page

To view a sales channel

  1. Select Search (Alt+Q) in the upper-right corner, enter Sales Channels, and then choose the related link.
  2. On the Sales Channel List page select the relevant sales channel, and then choose the View action.

Available sales channel card actions

The following table lists the most important actions available on the Sales Channel Card page.

Action Description
Inbound Events Automate tasks Business Central performs after converting a sales order from your webshop, such as releasing or posting the order. For more information, see Automate order processing after import.
Stock Formula Calculate the exact stock quantity Tinx Connector publishes to your webshop, with support for location filters and custom conditions. This is part of Item Stock Calculation, the most flexible of Tinx Connector's stock synchronization methods. For more information, see Item Stock Calulation.
Apply Customer Template Fields Choose which customer card fields, such as VAT and posting groups, Tinx Connector updates automatically when it reapplies a customer template. For example, this happens after a returning customer places a new order. For more information, see Customer templates.
Data Validation Catch missing or misconfigured data, such as an unmatched customer or a missing SKU, before it blocks synchronization with your webshop. You define which fields are required for your sales channel, and Tinx Connector notifies you when a record doesn't meet them. For more information, see Data validation.

Available sales channel card fields

The following table lists some of the fields available on the Sales Channel Card page.

Field Description
Customer Template Search on Shipping Country Specifies whether Tinx Connector applies a customer template based on the shipping country instead of the billing country. For more information, see Customer templates.
Transfer BC Attributes Specifies whether Business Central attributes are copied to Tinx Connector for this sales channel. For more information, see Synchronize attributes.
Guest Customer No. Specifies the customer card Tinx Connector assigns to orders placed by guests, when you use the default Shopify mapping or the default WooCommerce mapping. For more information, see Synchronize customers.

Is Default and Active toggles

Use the Active toggle on the Sales Channel Card page to control whether Business Central synchronizes with the sales channel. When you turn off the toggle, publishing or importing data for that sales channel is impossible. Turning off the toggle is useful, for example, when you want to temporarily block communication with your webshop.

In some cases you need to deactivate the related synchronization dashboard to block communication with your webshop. For more information, see Running synchronization dashboards and activating message definitions.

You can use the Active toggle to switch between a test and a production webshop connected to the same Business Central environment. For example, turn off the Active toggle on the sales channel connected to your test webshop. In the same time turn on the Active toggle on the sales channel connected to your production webshop.

Tinx Connector uses the Is Default toggle to automatically populate fields on some pages. For example, the Web Item Extension page uses this toggle. If you have multiple sales channels, Business Central doesn't know which one to use for a new entry. If you mark a sales channel as Is Default, Business Central uses it to populate the sales channel value on the entry. If no sales channel is marked as default, that value stays empty.

There's no strict rule for which sales channel to mark as default. As a practical guideline, mark your most active sales channel as default.

Creating and setting up the first sales channel for the ecommerce platform

When you create the first sales channel for a webshop, Tinx Connector downloads the default configuration for your webshop to your Business Central environment. For more information, see Default mapping.

The setup of the connection with the webshop also varies by webshop, so you need to follow the specific instructions for your webshop. To learn more about how to create the first sales channel and configure the connection between Business Central and your webshop, see the following articles.

Creating and setting up additional sales channels for the ecommerce platform

Most companies using Tinx Connector run only one sales channel. However, in some scenarios, additional sales channels are required. The following procedure describes how to create a new sales channel for a webshop after you have created the first sales channel.

In most cases, adding another sales channel means a new sales channel for a webshop you've already set up. For example, this could be a second Shopware sales channel. In some cases, companies connect an entirely new webshop instead, for example adding an Amazon sales channel alongside an existing Shopware one. If that's your case, follow Creating and setting up the first sales channel for the ecommerce platform instead. Some companies using Tinx Connector have two or three different webshops connected simultaneously.

To create a sales channel record

  1. In Business Central, select Search (Alt+Q) in the upper-right corner, enter Sales Channels, and then choose the related link.
  2. On the Sales Channel List page, select the Webshop Connectors action in the New group.
  3. On the Webshop Connectors Overview page, choose the New action, and then turn on the Create Sales Channel Record Only toggle.
  4. Fill in the Sales Channel Code and Sales Channel Description fields, and then choose OK.

This creates a new sales channel record in Business Central. However, the new sales channel does not inherit the configuration from the first one. You need to configure the new sales channel separately. For more information, see Creating and setting up the first sales channel for the ecommerce platform.

When you choose the Create Sales Channel Record Only option, Tinx Connector doesn't download the default webshop configuration to your Business Central environment. Therefore, your existing synchronization dashboards remain applied to the first sales channel. You need an additional set of dashboards to run messages for the new sales channel.

When you create a new sales channel, you always need a new set of synchronization dashboards, but copying message definitions is not always necessary. You need to decide if the message definitions will be used in the same way on all sales channels, or if you are going to change them. You need copies of the message definitions only if you plan to make changes. If you use the same message definitions across all sales channels, you can still have different filters, events, and so on in each dashboard. For more information, see Message definitions.

To reuse the same message definitions on the new sales channel, copy the dashboard. Then set the new sales channel in the Sales Channel field on the copy. The message definitions in that dashboard automatically apply to the new sales channel. For more information, see To create a new synchronization dashboard based on an existing one.

A copied synchronization dashboard keeps the filter settings from the original message definitions. Before you use the copy, check the list of inbound message definitions. You need to reset their filters for the new sales channel. These filters usually fetch based on order ID, though some webshops, such as WooCommerce, filter by order date instead. With the copied setup, the connector might have issues with processing inbound messages in the new sales channel.
