Connect Business Central with Magento

Use Tinx Magento 2 Connector to connect Business Central with your webshop. The end goal is to set up a connection that allows you to send data from Business Central to Magento and import data from Magento to Business Central. To get there, you complete the following steps.

  1. Generate an API key in Magento. In your Magento backend, generate an API key that you'll enter in Business Central.
  2. Enable OAuth access tokens (required for Magento 2.4.4 or higher). In Magento, enable the option to use OAuth access tokens as standalone bearer tokens.
  3. Install Tinx Magento 2 Connector. Install the connector from AppSource and complete the initial setup in Business Central.
  4. Create and configure a Magento sales channel. Create a new Magento sales channel, then use the API key from step 1 to configure it in Business Central.
  5. Test the connection. Verify that Business Central can communicate with Magento by publishing items and importing orders.

You can follow the steps in the following interactive walkthrough, or read the detailed instructions in the next sections of this article.

To generate an API key in Magento

You need an Admin role with the Integrations and OAuth Configuration permissions to complete this procedure.

Tinx Magento Connector is only compatible with the following versions:

  • Magento Open Source (free, self-hosted).
  • Adobe Commerce (on-premises/self-hosted, sometimes called EE).
  • Adobe Commerce on Cloud (Adobe-managed hosting).
  • Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service (SaaS, since June 2025).
  1. Log in to your Magento backend.

  2. Select System in the admin sidebar, and then choose Integrations.

    magento-backend-system-integrations
  3. On the Integrations page, choose the Add New Integration button.

  4. On the New Integration page, enter the name of the new integration in the Name field.

  5. Enter the password of your existing Magento user in the Your Password field. This is the password to your Magento backend.

    new-integration-magento-name-your-password
  6. Select API in the BASIC SETTINGS section.

    magento-backend-new-integration-user-password-api
  7. On the Available APIs list, choose Resources that you want Tinx Magento 2 Connector to have access to, and then choose Save.

  8. On the Integrations page, select Activate for the new integration.

    magento-backend-activate-new-integration
  9. To approve access for the new integration, choose Allow on the next page.

  10. On the Integration Tokens for Extension page, copy the Access Token to a secure location. You need this value to configure the Magento sales channel in Business Central.

There are two similar fields on this page: Access Token and Access Token Secret. You need to copy the Access Token value. The Access Token Secret value isn't used anywhere in the Magento setup in Business Central.

  11. Select Done to complete the process.

To enable OAuth access tokens to be used as standalone bearer tokens

Tinx Connector sends the bearer token to Magento in the header of each request. Magento must accept it. This procedure is required if you use Magento 2.4.4 or higher.

  1. Select Stores in the admin sidebar, and then choose Configuration.

    magento-backend-stores-configuration
  2. On the Configuration page, choose Services, choose OAuth, and then choose Consumer Settings.

  3. On the Consumer Settings tab, in the Allow OAuth Access Tokens to be Used as Standalone Bearer Tokens field, choose Yes.

Whitelisting your test environment

If you use a Magento test webshop that isn't publicly visible, for example to keep test data out of search engine results, you might need to whitelist your Business Central. Whitelisting lets it reach your webshop.

To install Tinx Magento 2 Connector and complete the initial configuration

Skip steps 1-2 if you are setting up Magento Connector as part of the Quickstart.

  1. Install Tinx Magento 2 Connector from AppSource. For more information, see Install.

You need a runtime application if you are using Business Central on-premises. For more information, see Runtime application and Update Customer License. Except for installing the runtime application and updating the customer license, the setup steps are the same for on-premises and online installations.

  2. Set up the following areas in Tinx Connector. For more information, see Initial configuration.

    • Change your role to TINX E-Com Admin.
    • Allow HttpClient requests.
    • Enable the change log.
    • Set up the default language and the job queue language.

To create and configure a Magento sales channel in Business Central

The following procedure is the minimum needed to establish the connection between Business Central and Magento. It's enough if you're completing this procedure as part of the quickstart, or if you want to test only that the connection works. The sales channel setup includes many more areas. For more information, see Sales channel.

  1. In Business Central, select Search (Alt+Q) in the upper-right corner, enter Sales Channels, and then choose the related link.

  2. On the Sales Channel List page, select the Webshop Connectors action in the New group.

  3. On the Webshop Connectors Overview page, choose MAGENTO-REST, choose the New action, and then choose Create Sales Channel.

  4. On the Start Assisted Setup page, in the Webshop Code field choose MAGENTO-REST, and then choose OK to create a sales channel.

Tinx Connector applies the default Sales Channel Code when you create the first sales channel. You can change the code later on the Sales Channel Card page.

If this is the first Magento sales channel you create in Business Central, Tinx Connector downloads the default mapping for your webshop. The download can take a few minutes. For more information, see Default mapping.

  5. When the download is complete, on the Sales Channel List page, select the newly created Magento sales channel, and then choose the Edit action.

  6. On the Sales Channel Card page, configure the necessary fields for your Magento integration.

The following table describes the most important fields you need to fill in to set up the connection with Magento.

    Field Description
Website Enter the full URL of your Magento store.
API Endpoint Tinx Connector automatically populates this field based on the Website field.
End Point In Tinx Connector automatically populates this field based on the Website field.
Bearer Token Enter the Access Token from Magento.
  7. Turn on the Active and Is Default toggles. For more information, see Is Default and Active toggles.

The following image shows the Magento connection setup on the Sales Channel Card page.

To test the connection with Magento

Complete Part 3-5 of the Quickstart to test publishing items from Business Central to Magento and downloading orders from Magento to Business Central. For more information, see Quickstart: Part 3. Set the inbound and outbound job queue entries to Ready.

If this is your first time using Tinx Magento 2 Connector, finish the Quickstart first. After that, read Key concepts in Tinx Connector and the Business functionality section to understand the Tinx Connector core functionality, such as importing orders or publishing products. That functionality is common to all webshops. After you understand this core functionality, continue to the Magento-specific articles that cover aspects unique to Tinx Magento 2 Connector.
